Using Internet Technologies as a Crisis Management Tool

[Refereed Communication] 6th Crisis Management Conference, Las Vegas, NV : University of Nevada-Las Vegas, 7-8 August 1997.
This paper reviews current advances in Internet technologies and tries to assess their usefulness as crisis management tools. Whereas their application in crisis communication is already well understood, I argue that their most important role is related to the management itself of the crisis. In particular, the difficult task of organizing rescue operations should gain from further integrating Internet tools. I also point at sensitive issues and caution about some weaknesses.
