Between Voluntarism and Determinism: Chaos!

Chaos might be the case in point of an extreme situation in which a succession of small and deliberate actions leads to a state of apparent randomness which seems impossible to control. In this situation, neither voluntarism nor determinism can help to explain the dynamics of what is observed. Non linear dynamics, however, provides a conceptual framework which reconciles the apparent contradiction between free will and an implacable destiny. Based on chaos theory, this paper attempts to show that free will contains the seeds of determinism that it creates through tightly coupled actions and dynamic interactions.
